The President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared three days of national mourning starting Thursday, following the loss of life in wildfires that broke out across several central and eastern provinces.

In a condolence message addressed to the families of the wildfire victims in the central and eastern provinces, the President of the Republic said: "In the wake of this tragedy, I declare a three-day national mourning period, during which flags will be flown at half-staff nationwide, and all festivities and national sporting events will be canceled."
