Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, participated today in Brussels in the third meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the African Union and the European Union.

This ministerial meeting allowed for a comprehensive assessment of the realization of the outcomes of the sixth AU-EU summit held in February 2022.

The program also included panel discussions on four main topics, namely: “Peace, Security and Governance”, ‘Multilateralism’, “Achieving Prosperity” and “People, Migration and People Movement” to explore ways to strengthen the partnership between the AU and the EU in these fields.

During the panel discussion on “Peace, Security and Governance”, Minister Ahmed Attaf highlighted three critical factors that are shaping the African landscape in the areas of peace and security: The alarming proliferation of hotbeds of tension, crises and conflicts across the continent, the transformation of Africa and the Sahel-Saharan region in particular into the epicenter of global terrorism, as well as the weak performance of collective diplomacy and its inability to cope with the worsening situation on the African continent.

The Minister of State also highlighted the urgent need to revitalize the African-European partnership in the field of peace and security in order to ensure that this partnership contributes to rehabilitating the role of diplomacy in the settlement of crises in Africa, supporting African Union peacekeeping operations, and investing more in consolidating stability through development as the best and most effective way to achieve lasting and sustainable peace in the African continent and the world as a whole.
