The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Lounes MAGRAMANE, co-chaired today, 30 July 2026, in the Italian capital Rome, alongside his Italian counterpart, Mr Riccardo Guariglia, the proceedings of the fifth session of the Algerian-Italian Strategic Dialogue on bilateral relations and broader political and security issues.

This session, which brought together representatives from various sectors and bodies on both sides, forms part of the regular political consultation mechanism between the two countries. It provided a renewed opportunity to assess the progress of bilateral cooperation in various fields and to review achievements since the previous session held in Algeria in June 2025, in light of the outcomes adopted during the Italian Prime Minister’s recent official visit to Algeria in March 2026 and the fifth intergovernmental summit held in Rome in July 2025.

The proceedings provided an opportunity to assess various aspects of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the political, security, economic, energy, agricultural, industrial and cultural fields, with both sides noting with satisfaction the positive results achieved on a number of key issues. They also discussed ways to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries towards promising prospects, in line with the measures adopted by the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the Italian Prime Minister, Ms Giorgia Meloni.

In this regard, both sides commended the progress made in implementing the ‘Mattei’ Plan and reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the implementation of joint strategic projects that will establish a new model of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

During the same session, the two sides discussed the current regional and international situation, exchanging views on developments in the Mediterranean region, Libya, Western Sahara and the Sahel, as well as the Middle East, whilst reaffirming their commitment to peaceful solutions to conflicts in accordance with the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

The proceedings concluded with an affirmation of the shared determination to continue strengthening the strategic partnership, to implement the recommendations arising from it, and to prepare for upcoming events, foremost among which is the Sixth High-Level Algerian-Italian Intergovernmental Summit, scheduled to take place next year in the capital, Algiers.
