On Tuesday 4 August 2026, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Lounes Magramane, received Mr Ahmed Donuma Omar, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as part of the latter’s visit to Algeria.

This meeting provided an opportunity to review the historic ties of friendship, cooperation and consultation between Algeria and Nigeria in the political, economic and energy sectors, as well as through the major strategic partnership projects launched by the two countries to drive development and strengthen infrastructure across the African continent, In particular, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP), the Trans-Saharan Highway and the Trans-Saharan Fibre-Optic Cable projects were highlighted, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to their implementation.

The two sides also discussed the schedule of visits and mechanisms for bilateral cooperation planned for the second half of this year, and exchanged views on key regional and international issues of mutual interest.
