This morning, at the Ministry’s headquarters, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr Ahmed Attaf, received the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad of the sister Republic of Senegal, Mr Cheikh Niang, who is on a working visit to Algeria.

On this occasion, the two ministers held a one-on-one meeting, followed by an extended round of talks involving members of the two delegations.

These talks provided an opportunity to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current state of Algerian-Senegalese relations and to explore prospects for strengthening them in all priority areas, particularly hydrocarbons, energy, the pharmaceutical industry, finance, higher education and scientific research, and vocational training, as well as the promotion of bilateral trade by capitalising on the advantages offered by the African Free Trade Area.

In this regard, the two sides agreed on the need to revitalise bilateral cooperation mechanisms to give new impetus to these relations, notably by preparing for the next session of the Algerian-Senegalese Joint Committee before the end of this year, and by reviving the Algerian-Senegalese Business Council.

The meeting also provided an important opportunity to exchange views and perspectives on current regional and international issues of mutual interest, foremost among which is the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region.
