At the start of his visit to New York to participate in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, signed today at the United Nations headquarters the ‘Agreement relating to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction’ (BBNJ).

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and Legal Counsel of the United Nations, Ms. Eleanor Hammer-Schoold.

This agreement aims to strengthen the protection of marine biodiversity in the high seas and ensure its sustainable and rational exploitation for the benefit of all humanity.
